Youth softball: Minden 15U, 8U teams get wins on first day of DYS state tournaments

The Minden All-Stars rolled to two victories on the first day of the Diamond Youth Baseball 15U state tournament in Metairie.

Minden defeated Jefferson Parish Recreation District East 10-4 and Blanchard 18-4.

Minden also won on the first day of the 8U state tournament in Buckeye, defeating Avoyelles 4-1 in pool play. Minden faces Grant in a first-round game Friday at 10:15 a.m.

Per the 15U team’s GameChanger site, five Minden players combined for seven hits against JRPD East. Ella Wood and Eastyn Pate had two each. Emmaline Harmon, Kenzie Pamintuan and McKinley James had one apiece. Pamintuan had three RBI. Harmon had two. Wood, Pate, Brayleigh Lewis and James all had one.

Rhea Waller, Harmon, Lewis and Lola Huddleston scored two runs apiece. Erin Danzy and James scored one each.

Wood pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks in five innings.

Waller, Harmon, Pate and James all had two hits against Blanchard. Woods, Lewis, Huddleston and Danzy all had one.

Harmon had three RBI. Waller and Pate had two each. Wood, Lewis, Huddleston, Danzy and James had one apiece.

Waller and Harmon scored three runs each. Wood, Lewis, Huddleston, Danzy and James scored two apiece. Pamintuan and Loralee Roberts scored one each.

Wood, Lewis, Pate, Harmon, Huddleston, Roberts and Danzy were members of last spring’s Lakeside team that went 22-10. Another Lakeside player, Peyton Wood, is serving as bench coach.

Ella Wood, a rising freshman, was a first-team All-District 3-2A selection.

James was starter at catcher for Minden High.

According to the Minden 8U GameChanger site, Minden had 12 hits in its victory.

Members of the team are (last names not available) Addie M, Andi Brooke H, Brylee H, Emmitt S, Hope L, Kali W, Kate F, Landry C, Magnolia, Magnolia C, Ovtavia N, Paisley H and Trudy B.

The Minden 6U and 10U teams both lost hard-fought pool games in their respective state tournaments in Buckeye. The 10U team faces Avoyelles Friday at 1 p.m. in the first round. The 6U team plays Buckeye at 10:15.
