A Shreveport man was arrested early July 22 after allegedly leading law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit along Interstate 20 in Webster Parish.
According to an arrest affidavit, 21-year-old Jeremiah Dejwuan Buffin was observed traveling eastbound on Interstate 20 at speeds exceeding 90 mph during a speed enforcement operation. Authorities attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Buffin allegedly accelerated instead of yielding.
The report states Buffin reached speeds in excess of 130 mph while weaving through traffic and driving on the interstate shoulder. The pursuit continued until he exited the interstate at Exit 49, where he reportedly braked abruptly near the roundabout.
According to the affidavit, Buffin’s erratic driving prompted a patrol unit to make contact with the rear of his vehicle, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway and enter a ditch. Officers then took Buffin into custody without further incident.
After being advised of his rights, Buffin reportedly told authorities he fled because he was afraid. He also stated he had been leaving Shreveport following an encounter involving another individual and a firearm. According to the report, Buffin acknowledged seeing the emergency lights but said he continued driving because he was frightened.
Buffin complained of back and neck pain following the crash and was transported by ambulance to Minden Medical Center for evaluation before being released and booked into the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
Authorities also determined Buffin had two active NCIC arrest warrants through the Shreveport Police Department. The vehicle he was driving was reportedly uninsured and was removed from the scene by a towing service.
Buffin was booked on charges of aggravated flight from an officer, reckless operation of a vehicle, speeding 92 mph in a 70 mph zone, driving without a driver’s license and being a fugitive from the Shreveport Police Department. The crash remains under investigation by Louisiana State Police.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
