A Dubberly man is facing two counts of attempted second degree murder after authorities say two men were critically wounded in a shooting Friday afternoon south of Heflin.
According to Webster Parish Sheriff Jason Parker, deputies responded just after 4 p.m. to a reported shooting at a residence in the 1800 block of Hwy. 792. When deputies arrived, they found 27-year-old Markeese Germany and 30-year-old Tadazion Jackson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds that were initially described as life-threatening.
Both victims were transported to LSU Ochsner Health in Shreveport, where they remain in critical condition, Parker said.
Authorities arrested 21-year-old Remington Gage Jellum of Dubberly in connection with the shooting. According to Parker, Jellum turned himself in at the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office a short time after the incident. Investigators also recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
Parker said investigators determined the victims were struck a total of seven times, with all of the gunshot wounds entering through their backs.
During interviews with detectives, Jellum initially claimed he acted in self-defense, according to the sheriff. However, investigators said he later admitted the shooting stemmed from a drug-related altercation.
Jellum is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center on two counts of attempted second degree murder. No bond has been set.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
