Students arriving for the first day of school at Central Elementary on Friday, August 7, received an unexpected welcome gift as free backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed through a partnership between Diversified Energy and the Kids in Need Foundation.
The backpacks included school supplies and reusable water bottles, giving students an extra reason to smile as they began the 2026-27 school year.
While many students arrived already equipped with the supplies they needed, school staff encouraged families who did not need the backpacks to pass them along to someone who could benefit.
“If you don’t need it, please pay it forward to someone who is in need,” Central Elementary Principal Daniel Lee said during the distribution.
Diversified Energy has become a familiar community partner in Minden through its charitable outreach efforts. In addition to the backpack giveaway, the company is known locally for providing jackets and shoes to area children, with those giveaways expected to continue later this year.
Principal Lee expressed gratitude to the organizations and everyone who helped make the event possible.
“Thank you from everybody at Central Elementary; it’s really a blessing,” Lee said.
Lee also recognized the efforts of teachers and staff who spent weeks preparing classrooms and the campus for students’ return.
During the morning announcements, Lee wished a happy birthday to the seven Central Elementary students celebrating birthdays on August 7, the first day of school.
The backpack distribution added to the excitement of the morning as students, many wearing new clothes and carrying bright smiles, began a new academic year with supplies in hand and encouragement from school staff and community partners.
