Tarheels win for Taz

by Minden Press-Herald

The Minden Patillo Tarheel girls’ team recently participated in the Primetime Sports Summer Hoops Tour in Monroe May 7 and brought home the first place trophy.

The girls say that they, “Did It For Taz.”

Taz Harris was a chartered player for Minden Patillo Tarheel Basketball Organization. He was one of four players that was on the team when Jerome Blalock, head coach of the Tarheels, started the basketball team more than 5 years ago. Most of the players on each of the 3 basketballs teams honored Taz by wearing his name and No. 4 on their left sleeve of their team shirt. When asked how they were able to win under the difficult circumstances, the girls simply said, “Taz was our sixth man.”

Minden Patillo TarHeels Organization is a non-profit basketball organization for boys and girls ages 14-17, and they are committed to working with children in our community to give them an opportunity to not only learn the skills needed to play basketball, but to also teach the importance of sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, community service, and dedicated hard work. The teams compete in tournaments throughout Louisiana, Texas, and this year will compete in Tennessee.
