MONROE – The North Webster Knights were outmatched Friday against Class 5A Ouachita High School.
The Lions kept the Knights’ offense from doing anything in the second half, using a huge second and third quarter to pull away and top North Webster 43-13.
North Webster fell behind early when Ouachita’s Jabari Johnson found the end zone on a 25-yard scamper to make the score 6-0 Lions.
The Knights struck back on the next play from scrimmage when Cameron Huff dropped back and found TJ Hawthorne for an 80-yard touchdown strike through the air. North Webster added the extra point and led at that point, 7-6.
Ouachita would strike twice in two minutes to start the second quarter.
Following a long drive, the Lions’ Jake Hammond caught a 9-yard touchdown to regain the lead for Ouachita, then Johnson added his second touchdown run of the evening from 62 yards out.
The Knights’ answered with another touchdown pass from Huff to Hawthorne, this time for 49-yards, to pull within five points on the scoreboard at 18-13.
The back-breaker for North Webster came when Ouachita’s Dylan Roberts found paydirt with four ticks left on the first-half clock. The two-point conversion try was good, and suddenly a 5-point lead jumped to 13.
Ouachita would add two more touchdowns to take a commanding 41-13 lead and that score would hold true until the end.
Huff completed 3-of-10 passes for the Knights, totaling 138 yards and two scores through the air.
Hawthorne caught both of North Webster’s touchdowns, finishing with 129 yards receiving and the two scores. AJ Stephens had one catch for 9 yards.
Jaylen Thomas led the running backs with 35 yards, followed by Sam Modisette with 28 yards.
