Shongaloo, LA- Funeral services for Mr. Cader Leroy Parker, age 87, will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Central Baptist Church, Springhill, LA, with Rev. Tim Everett and Rev. Everett Geis officiating. Interment will follow in Old Shongaloo Cemetery, Shongaloo, LA under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.Visitation will be held Monday, February 4, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Bailey Funeral Home.
Mr. Parker was born on February 6, 1931 to Ford Bonham and Mary Elizabeth Davis Parker in Pilot Point, TX and passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in Springhill, LA. He loved his church, Central Baptist, where he was a faithful member and loved teaching a men’s Sunday School Class there for many years. He was a retired salesman from Prudential Insurance Company after 33 years, was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of The Gideon’s International. He loved taking care of his yard, working in his workshop and was very civic minded. He was a tour guide for seven years for Creative World Travels. After retirement, he was a volunteer at Springhill Medical Center for eight years and then was employed there for two years as transportation director. He and Mrs. Parker were very active members of the Good Sam’s Club and were instrumental in bringing a Samboree to Springhill in 1996.
One of the things Mr. and Mrs. Parker enjoyed so much was being “Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus” for over 21 years. They visited many nursing homes and schools during the Christmas season. He also loved his pet dogs, Katie and Bentley and his pet cats, Tiger, Maxwell, Snowball and Frack.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Vira Faye Munn Parker of Shongaloo, LA; son, Richard D. Parker and Kathy of Mesa, AZ; two daughters, Gayla Slack Webb and husband, Gary of Pasadena, TX, Debra Slack Pope and husband, Dennis of Minden, LA; five grandchildren, Stefanie Wolford, Mallory Gray, Derek Eugene Wharton, Paula Sikes, and James Sikes; ten great-grandchildren, Penny Wolford, Briana Hunter, Tyler Felder, Kathleen Newmans, Kirsten Newmans, Haley Sikes, Roper Sikes, Zachery Gray, Charlette Gray, Megan Wharton, Blake, Jeremy and Evan; great great-grandson, Silas Hunter; sister-in-law, Jean Parker; niece, Kelly Hooper, and nephew, Michael Parker. He is also survived by a special “adopted” son and daughter-in-law, Rodger and Cindy Schenks of Cherry, AZ.Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ford Glenn Parker.
Pallbearers will be Bob Moody, Randy Frye, James Barnett, Ray Burnham, Billy Sayers, and Carl Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Craig, Jerry Nash and Billy Hilburn.
