Pet saved by fire crews from Sunday night blaze
A pet was saved from a burning home in Dixie Inn Sunday night as the Webster Fire District 7 (Dixie Inn) Department, City of Minden Fire Department, Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Advanced EMS responded to the report of a mobile home fire.
When fire crews arrived, smoke and flames were visible from the double-wide. The occupant advised fire personnel that his dog was still in the house. Firefighters from Minden were the first inside. Captain Wesley Mandino located the pet not moving inside of the structure. He removed the dog and gave him to other emergency services personnel outside.
Advanced EMS had already been dispatched to the fire and arrived shortly after. They administered oxygen and first aid to the dog, who had no apparent injuries. After several minutes the dog began to arouse. The dog was taken to a nearby family member’s house. The dog was drinking water and recovering when the fire department cleared the scene.
The flames were quickly knocked down, but the damage had already been done with the majority of the contents inside the structure being damaged or destroyed. According to the occupant, another subject that was at the house at the time of the fire was taken to the hospital by personal vehicle prior to emergency services arriving for burns on his forehead and hands.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but is considered to be unintentional.
