Funeral services for John L. Haygood will be held Friday, March 8, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Pine Grove United Methodist Church in Minden, Louisiana with Rev. Jerry Brannen officiating. Interment will follow at Minden Cemetery in Minden, Louisiana under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.  The family will receive friends from 9 am Friday until service time at the church. 

John was born July 17, 1927 in Shreveport, Louisiana and entered into rest March 5, 2019 in Bossier City, Louisiana. He received his B.S. and M.S. from LSU. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. In his position with LA Wildlife and Fisheries he helped restore deer and wild turkey. He was a substitute professor at LSU. He was the resource manager for a large military base for over 25 years where he restored large wetlands, helped establish large heronries, built numerous ponds, established waterfowl refuges, helped manage threatened and endangered species, implements important research projects, reforested abandoned areas and provided recreational opportunities for users. Since retiring he has remained active in wildlife planning and management. He received the John D. Newsom Wildlife award among many other awards. John was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, and the S.C.V. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jean Gifford Haygood, and son Alan Haygood. 

He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Odom and husband Troy of Lewisville, Arkansas granddaughter, Stephanie Odom Phillips and husband Ryan of Baton Rouge and great-grandchildren, Brenna Callie and Blaine Austin Phillips of Baton Rouge.
