Deborah “Debbie” Jo Tubbs was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on July 31, 2021, at age 64.
Debbie was born August 4, 1956 and was raised in the small country town of Lisbon, Louisiana. She often told stories of how much she enjoyed the simple times and slow pace there. She learned many life skills such as gardening and sewing at that time thanks to her loving Grandparents. Whether they were working hard at the homeplace or getting into mischief, she was so happy to have her big brother Stan by her side. She knew he always had her back and loved him fiercely.
At fourteen, Debbie started her first job and quickly realized she loved working. She enjoyed learning new skills but most of all she loved meeting new people. One of her favorite jobs was doing pest control because she had the opportunity to visit with all of her customers. Though she stayed busy with various careers her world changed when she had her first child. From that moment on her strongest desire was to be the greatest mother to her babies, Jason and Jennifer.
Her children were her whole world. She volunteered with all of their sports and activities, hosted amazing birthday parties, and delighted in cooking them meals from scratch. Fried chicken and mashed potatoes became her specialty. Her home was often filled with friends of Jason and Jennifer. She loved their friends and they adored her. If they weren’t calling her Mom, they were calling her Moma Deb.
Debbie never thought a love could compare to what she felt for her children. That is, until her grandchildren were born. She was so proud each time a new grandbaby was added to the family. She was their “Honey” and cherished each moment she got to spend with them. She never took advantage of their time together. She played Barbies, ramped trucks, sang songs, had dance parties, colored, played beautician, and always showered them with hugs and kisses.
Debbie’s favorite way to kick start her day was sitting on the porch with an ice cold can of Coca-Cola. She loved working in the garden and hoped her children would inherit her green thumb. She took pleasure in sewing projects from Jennifer’s embroidery business and mending various items for her daughter in law. She loved getting cozy in her robe and getting lost in a romance novel. She had a weakness for reality television, snack cakes, and cinnamon discs.
She will forever be remembered for her kind heart and her immense love for her children and grandchildren.
Debbie Jo was preceded in death by her father Larry Tubbs; mother, Vera Jane Crumpler; paternal grandparents Cecil and Hazel Tubbs; and maternal grandparents Hiram and Marie Ettie Gray.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jason and Jennifer Veitch; her precious grandchildren, Kaigan, Decklyn, Beckham, Cooper, Kaylie, Greddy, and Zander; brothers Stan Tubbs, Tony Crumpler, Kelly Crumpler; sister Lorie Hunter; and her best friend Judy Jones.
