During the Webster Parish Fair, 4-H members showed off the animals they raised and their skills at showmanship. The first day’s competition was for rabbits and poultry with each breed in its own division.
In the rabbit competition, Edgar Silva had a number of winners. He took 1st place for his New Zealand (3 year old) doe, his Flemish Giant (1 ½ year old) buck, his Mini Dutch (8 month old) doe, his Harlequin (6 year old) doe, and his Mini Rex (1 ½ year old) buck. Silva also took 2nd place for his New Zealand (1 year old) doe.
Alex Gaskins took 2nd place for her Flemish Giant (1 ½ year old) doe.
The rabbit Champion, for the rabbit most closely matching breed standards, was Edgar Silva’s Mini Rex (1 ½ year old) buck and the Reserve Champion was Silva’s Flemish Giant (1 ½ year old) buck.
The showmanship competition allows the competitors to show-off their knowledge of the animals they have raised and the breed standards for that specific breed. The Champion for rabbit showmanship was Edgar Silva, and the Reserve Champion was Alex Gaskins.
In the poultry competition, Bella Gaskin took 1st place with her Creole Old English cock and 2nd place with her Creole Old English hen. Taylor Rayner’s Blue Andalusian hen took 1st place. Colten Alley’s Buff Orpington cockerel took 1st place. Jacob Talarchyk’s Black Cochin cock took 1st place and his Black Cochin hen took 2nd place. Lennie Garza’s Self Blue Belgian Bearded D’uccle hen took 1st place.
The overall Champion bird of the poultry competition was awarded to Jacob Talarchyk for his Black Cochin cock, and Lennie Garza’s Self Blue Belgian Bearded D’uccle hen took 2nd place.
In the showmanship competition, Jacob Talarchyk was named the Champion, and Taylor Rayor was named Reserve Champion.
