Fifty-eight teams are set to compete in the annual Minden St. Jude Dixie Open Saturday and Sunday at the Minden Recreation Complex.
The divisions are T-ball, 7-8 coach pitch, 9-10, 11-12 O-Zone and 13-14 Dixie.
The tournament is held in memory of Stanton Haynes, who passed away of neuroblastoma one day short of his fourth birthday in 2005. Stanton was the son of Tina and Jeff Haynes, the tournament’s founder. The tournament was first held in 2016.
Admission is $10. All proceeds will go to Minden St. Jude Auction. Last year, Haynes said the $40,000 was donated to the Auction.
According to the Minden St. Jude Auction website, the city of Minden and surrounding communities contribute more money per capita to St. Jude than any other city in the United States. This year, $2,030,013 was raised for during the Auction for the kids at St. Jude.
The Auction was started four decades ago by KASO 1240 AM and is now a four-day telethon and raffle broadcast on radio and TV. More than $20 million has been raised for St. Jude over the years.
Games begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and continue throughout the day.
Five teams from Minden are competing. The rest are from the surrounding area including Springhill, Bossier City and Shreveport.
