Scammers impersonating police on the phone

by Minden Press-Herald

A new scam has just started making its rounds using fear of arrest as a means to frighten people out of their money.

These imposters are calling and telling people that they were subpoenaed for court and have missed their court dates, and now there is a warrant for their arrest. They are told that, if they come to the police department, they will be arrested on sight, and are advised to pay their fine over the phone.

“These scammers are using my name, they’re using officers’ names, they’re using badge numbers,” said Minden Police Chief Jared McIver. “They’ve even used the PD phone number to call people.”

The Minden Police Department is not making these calls. Do not give money to anyone who calls you making these claims. If you do receive a call like this, please contact the police department and let them know about it as soon as possible.
