Shug’s bringing sweet treats to Main Street

by Will Phillips

Sweets lovers will soon rejoice at a new addition to Minden’s Main Street. A new ice cream shop, Shug’s, owned and operated by Minden locals Donny and Mandi Hart, will be opening its doors near the end of summer. This new shop aims not only to serve some sweet treats, but also to serve as a place for people to hang out and share a good time with one another.

“We love Minden, and we love ice cream. We saw a need for this type of business in Minden so people aren’t having to drive to Bossier for their favorite scoops. It will be a family-friendly atmosphere with board games, cards, dominoes, etc. for everyone to come and hang out, stay a while, and have some fun,” said Mandi Hart.

At any given point, Shug’s will be offering 26 flavors out of their dippings cabinets and, to keep things fresh, some of those flavors will be rotating out for new ones, giving people a reason to check in time and time again, possibly finding some new favorite flavors by doing so.

“Our supplier has over 100 flavors we will rotate in and out in our 26-flavor dipping cabinets. We will have our staples, some seasonal options, as well as just some fun choices. We will also have sugar-free options as well as vegan options. We are planning on specialty shakes as well,” said Hart.

Shug’s will also be going mobile as well, allowing customers to mobily select which flavors they would enjoy and having Shug’s serve them at all manner of events.

“There will also be a mobile cart if you would like us to come to your event and bring ice cream. Our ice cream is from Madison, Wisconsin. It is some of the creamiest ice cream we’ve ever tried with 18% butterfat,” said Hart.

“We pray this is a successful endeavor not just for our family but for Main Street Minden as well. We plan to be open seven days a week to serve the cravings of our customers.”
