A procession of bikers, led by a Harley-riding Santa, gathered at the Walmart parking lot on Saturday, November 25, marking the commencement of the season of giving in Minden. Organized by Ken and Cheryl Collins, the 8th annual Shriner Toy Run attracted participants eager to contribute to a cause that has become a cherished tradition.
The roots of the Shriner Toy Run trace back 15 years, with Ken Collins initiating the first seven years as part of a prison ministry. The event, which convenes at Walmart before proceeding to the fairgrounds, features communal activities such as a shared meal, door prize draws, and heartfelt fellowship. The majority of door prizes are generously donated by 3 State Harley-Davidson.
While the Toy Run welcomes participants from all walks of life, its primary focus remains on the biking community. The mission is clear: gather toys and donations to benefit children at Shriners Hospital. This year’s turnout included approximately 30 motorcycles, accompanied by some cars, contributing to a collection that filled a van with toys and donations totaling around $600.00.
Ken Collins emphasized the altruistic nature of the biker community, stating, “This is not about me or anyone else; this is about the kids. The biker world has some of the most giving people you will ever find. I have been one all my life, and I love them.”
