Karen’s Korner
Well, the Christmas Holidays are upon us. Only a few more shopping days left. I know it is a very busy time, with family coming in, meals to be planned, groceries to be bought, and those last-minute gifts to be purchased or made. And sometimes, we get lost in the rush.
And I know that it is a fun, festive time for many, however, there are those who are not having such a festive time. There are many seniors who will be lonely during this time. Their family has gone before them, or they live alone and far away from families. We certainly need to be mindful of the holiday season and the effect it has on those who are facing them this time in a different way.
May I suggest that you check on your neighbors or those seniors during this time and remember them!
Here are some suggestions to help:
Phone calls are always good….just to let them know you are thinking of them….
A card or letter is another helpful avenue to help navigate the season…
A small gift certificate to a restaurant or even the store…
Donate or volunteer at the food bank…
A visit with a small gift – nothing takes the place of a visit…
Send flowers, or a small donation
If you know the person, and times are tough, talk about it – find out about pressing needs…
Invite them to your church programs or a Christmas program you are going to attend.
Being aware of other’s needs is not only needed this time of the year, but every day. If you have questions, please contact the Webster Parish Council on Aging, here in Minden! We are located at 1482 Sheppard Street. Our number is 318-371-3056.
Merry Christmas!
