Sheriff Whittington to open rifle range to public

by Minden Press-Herald

Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington will open the Bossier Sheriff’s Office rifle range to the public on three  weekends in September so hunters can sight-in their rifles for hunting season.

The range, located at 2955 Old Plain Dealing Road in Plain Dealing, will be open on these dates and  times:

• Sept. 14, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

• Sept. 21, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

• Sept. 28, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The range features 12 shooting lanes with targets at 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards. Basic targets will be  available at the range, but shooters can also bring their own paper targets. You’ll need to bring your  own rifles and ammunition, since none will be available at the range. You’ll also need to bring your own  hearing and eye protection, but some will be available at the range if needed.

“I am pleased to offer this service to our residents so they can sight in their rifles at our range in a safe  environment, especially as we approach hunting season,” said Sheriff Whittington.

The Rifle Range is located just south of the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office Training Academy (formerly  North Louisiana Criminal Justice Academy) on Old Plain Dealing Road approximately 12 miles from the  town of Benton.

The Rifle Range can be located in the Bossier Sheriff app under the Resource Map tab at the bottom of  the front page. You can find the Bossier Sheriff app in the Apple app and Android stores now.

Although you do not need to register, you can always contact the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office Training  Academy at 965-3525 for more information.
