Red River Quilters Quilt Show to feature 200+ quilts, silent auction, and Roaring 20s theme

The Red River Quilters will hold their annual quilt show on September 13-14 at the Louisiana State Fair Grounds Ag Building, showcasing over 200 quilts under the theme “The Roaring 20s a Second Time Around.” The event will feature a judged competition, a merchant mall, silent auction, and a special exhibit of Hoffman Challenge entries celebrating the Hoffman company’s centennial.

The two-day show will take place from 9 AM to 6 PM on Friday and from 9 AM to 4 PM on Saturday. The venue boasts 25,000 square feet of display space, where ribbons will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners in each category. Notably, “choice” ribbons will be presented by the mayors of Shreveport and Bossier City, a media representative, and the show judge for their favorite quilts.

Marilyn Hardy, a National Association of Certified Judges (NACQJ) certified quilt judge and Masterpiece Quilt Judge from Tyler, Texas, will judge this year’s competition.

The show will honor Shreveport native Hilda Williams as the Featured Quilter. At 96 years old, Williams is still actively creating quilts for her family, which includes 16 great-grandchildren. She is known for her dedication to the craft, piecing quilts daily and gifting handmade items to her family each Christmas.

Beyond the quilt displays, the event will offer a silent auction with quilt-related items, handmade products available for purchase, and a photo booth where attendees can pose with props from the Roaring 20s era.

Local and regional vendors will set up booths at the event, including MNM Creations & Quilt Shop, El Dorado, Arkansas; All Brands Fabric Boutique, Bossier City; and Martelli Enterprises, Pensacola, Florida, among others. As a special highlight, the Hoffman Challenge 2023 will be featured, showcasing quilts made using water-related blue batiks to commemorate the Hoffman family’s love of the ocean and their pioneering work in the batik fabric industry.

Admission to the show is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-10. Children under 5 are admitted free. For more information, visit www.redriverquilters.com or find Red River Quilters on Facebook.

The Red River Quilters Guild, founded in 1983, promotes the appreciation and preservation of quilts while fostering charitable initiatives. The group annually makes hundreds of small quilts for local hospitals, comfort caps for cancer patients, and during the pandemic, produced thousands of cloth masks for first responders and medical facilities.
