High school football: Glenbrook seniors leave winning legacy

by Russell Hedges

Glenbrook’s season came to an end Friday night with a 49-13 loss to Ouachita Christian in the first round of the select Division IV playoffs in Monroe.

Glenbrook, the No. 22 seed, finished 6-4 in Head Coach Reagan Smith’s second season. Ouachita Christian (10-1), the No. 11 seed, visits No. 6 Catholic-Pointe Coupee in the second round.

Glenbrook’s seniors leave a winning legacy.

They were freshmen when the school made the transition from the MAIS to the LHSAA in 2021. During that span, the Apaches have gone 33-10.

“A fairly large group of seniors for a Class 1A school, there are 16 of them,” Glenbrook Head Coach Reagan Smith said. “They came to work every day and put in the time and we were able to accomplish a lot. Every year that they’ve been in the LHSAA they’ve posted a winning season including this one. So there is a lot to be said about the accomplishments of that group.”

Those seniors are quarterback Easton Sanders, RB/DE Seth Mangrum, WR/DB back Jackson Waller, RB/LB Cade Vining, L Jonathan Bryant, TE/DE Brayson Cummings, FB/DE Dawson Day, WB/DB Drew Blackwelder, L Hayden Hammett, L Preston Pope, L Grant Harrington, L Davairi Jackson, L Dylan Caston, TE/LB Ayden Rose, FB/LB Landon Chanler and OL/DL Tryston Maus.

Glenbrook started the season with several key players sidelined by injuries. After losing to Bossier in Week 2, the Apaches reeled off five straight victories.

The Apaches’ last two losses were to Class 1A powers Haynesville and OCS.

“I think once you know all the information it kind of speaks for itself,” Smith said of the season.

Glenbrook fell behind Ouachita Christian early. The Eagles led 49-0 at the half.

“They jumped out early,” Smith said. “They made some plays early that put us behind the eight ball. From there it was a challenge.”
