High school basketball: Crimson Tide advance to title game of Don Stahl Memorial Tournament; Lady Tiders reach semifinals; Doyline boys win 6th in a row

The Minden boys and girls teams both won Thursday on the second day of the Don Stahl Memorial Tournament at Lakeside.

The Crimson Tide advanced to the boys championship game with a 79-61 victory over Gibsland-Coleman. Minden faces Camden Fairview, Ark., Saturday at 4 p.m. for the title.

The Lady Tiders advanced to the girls semifinals with a 47-37 victory over Homer. They also play Camden Fairview at 8 p.m. Friday. The championship game is at 3 Saturday.

Minden got off to a fast start against Gibsland-Coleman, outscoring the Bulldogs 24-9 in the first quarter.

The Tide (2-0) extended the lead to 46-26 at the half.

Cameron Parker led Minden with 26 points. Darnell Morris added 16. Carmelo Smith scored 11. Jaiden Franklin added eight.

The loss was the first for Gibsland-Coleman after five straight wins to start the season.

Junior power forward Brooklyn Jefferson and senior guards Travesti Byrd and Shelby Glenn led the Lady Tiders (2-1).

Jefferson had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. She also had seven assists.

Glenn had 15 points, six assists and five steals. Byrd had nine points and five assists. 

In other quarterfinal girls games, Simsboro edged North DeSoto 35-32 and Ringgold slipped past Lakeside 47-46. Simsboro and Ringgold face off in the semifinals Friday at 6:30 before the Minden-Camden Fairview game.

In a non-tournament boys game, Doyline improved to 9-1 with a 75-63 home victory over Class 4A Grant.

The Panthers will go into Tuesday’s home game against Plain Dealing with a six-game winning streak.

NOTE: In a story and headline published Wednesday, the winner of the boys’ first-round game between North Webster and Camden Fairview was incorrect. Camden Fairview won 84-39. The story has been updated with the correction.
