High school baseball: Minden gets past Doyline

The Minden Crimson Tide defeated the Doyline Panthers 4-1 Saturday at Doyline.

Elsewhere, Lakeside fell to Calvary Baptist 5-1 at Calvary. 

At Doyline, Minden’s Bray Winston and Landyn Huddleston combined on a three-hitter. Winston allowed two hits, struck out six and walked three in four innings. Huddleston gave up one hit, struck out five and walked five in three innings,

Minden’s Topher Wilson went 2-for-2. Bryson Ranger went 2-for-3. Huddleston went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Jacob Smith had two RBI. He drove in the Tide’s first run in the first with a single. Winston had an RBI-double in the second. Huddleston made it 3-0 with a two-out single.

Ranger led off the third with a single. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a passed ball. He scored on a groundout.

Doyline scored its run in the bottom of the fifth. Ayden Moreno-Taule singled with one out and James Dodge followed with a double.

Noah Spears was intentionally walked to load the bases. But Huddleston induced a fielder’s choice and got a strikeout to end the threat.

Moreno-Taule went 2-for-3. Spears pitched a complete game. He allowed seven hits, struck out 11 and walked two.

Minden (14-8) is scheduled to begin a two-game district series against Loyola Tuesday at Loyola at 6. Doyline (6-8) is scheduled to visit Haughton Wednesday at 5.

At Calvary, Lakeside’s Jon Jon Dick went 2-for-3 with a triple. Jake Glass also went 2-for-3.

Lakeside (9-13) is scheduled to host D’Arbonne Woods Charter Tuesday at 6.
