The No. 14 seed Doyline Panthers routed No. 19 Florien 10-0 in five innings in a Class B first-round game Friday at Doyline.
Doyline (13-13) will travel to Shreveport to face No. 3 Family Community (20-12) in the second round. Family Community received a first-round bye.
The news wasn’t as good for the Minden Crimson Tide and the Lakeside Warriors.
Minden, the No. 14 seed, fell to No. 3 Lutcher 10-0 in Game 1 of their best-of-3 non-select Division II second-round series.
Game 2 is scheduled for noon Saturday. If the Tide win, Game 3 is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
Lakeside’s season came to an end. The No. 13 seed Warriors fell to No. 4 Westlake 23-8 in Game 2 of their second-round series at Westlake.
Lakeside finished 20-16 in Hall of Famer Bob Gray’s return as head coach.
At Doyline, Northwestern State signee Noah Spears pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and only one walk. He also went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
James Dodge, Jonas Florence, Zach Normand and Zack Mosley had one single apiece. Kenneth Anderson drew three walks.
The first three innings were scoreless. Doyline took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Panthers ended the game with eight in the fifth,
Doyline had four singles in the inning. Spears’ two-RBI double made it 9-0. Spears scored the final run on an error.
Florien closed its season 11-14.
At Lutcher, the Bulldogs (24-11) scored six runs in the bottom of the first. They added two more in the second and one in the third.
Minden (21-15) got four hits off Cameron DeRoche in the six-inning game. Landyn Huddleston went 2-for-2 with a double. Bray Winston and Landon Brewer had singles.
Lutcher had 11 hits. DeRoche went 3-for-3. Gage Berthelot went 3-for-4.
Minden had four errors which contributed to Lutcher’s fast start.
At Westlake, Lakeside, the designated home team, got off to a good start offensively and led 7-5 through three innings. But the Rams broke the game open with nine in the top of the fourth.
After two scoreless innings, Westlake put nine more on the board in the seventh.
The Warriors had nine hits. Eli Campbell went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Gage Williams and Drake Chreene both went 2-for-3.
Peyton Gray, Jake Glass and Noah Redding had singles.
Westlake (23-10) had 17 hits. The Rams also drew 10 walks.
