A Christmas Message from the Mayor

There’s likely to be just before Christmas by the time you read this article. And what a magical time Christmas is. Minden has many things to be proud of and thankful for, and while we recently celebrated Thanksgiving and all the many reasons for which we should be thankful, today I want to talk about one of the most important tenets of the Christian faith.

The Bible teaches us that it is better to give than to receive. From Hebrews to John to Matthew and all books between, before, and after, the Holy Word points out to us that everyone needs a little help sometimes and that no one is meant to go through this life alone.

This is true for every day all year long, but our spirit of Brotherly and Sisterly love should be even greater at this special time of year.

There are so many ways you can help those less fortunate during this holiday season. I encourage all in our community to give to our local Angel Trees, to the local food pantries, to our local CASA chapter, and to the Civitans Toys for Tots outreach. Every one of these programs is worthwhile and help put smiles on children’s faces and Christmas meals on families’ dinner tables.

These are exciting times in Minden, and we need to be good to one another. Christmas will be here soon, and we have so much to be thankful for because we are truly blessed. Our local business owners, both large and small, contribute so much to our local economy. Webster Parish Tourism has outdone itself once again as part of the Holiday Tour of Lights. Our Chamber is so active promoting our community, and we have a wonderful group of people who have gone above and beyond to shine the light on all the positive things happening in this community.

We all need to challenge each other to carry the Christmas Spirit with us everywhere we go. Christmas may only come once a year, but if we all do our part, the spirit of this holy day can live on every day not only in our hearts but also in our words and actions.

It is better to give than to receive. So too it is better to love and practice kindness all day every day.

From my family to yours, Merry Christmas.
