A good time was had by all last Saturday

My pastor, the Rev. Dee Anders, is known to say, “A good time was had by all. That’s how we’re writing it up.” Truer words may never have been spoken as it applies to Christmas in Minden last Saturday.

From the tour of homes in the Historic Residential District, to the many downtown events, this year, Minden really showed off for Christmas.

There was something for all ages. Kids enjoys their own special area with bouncy houses and other fun things. But the fun wasn’t limited to the great outdoors. Geaux Fresh Bistro and Bakery stepped up with an event of their own, Cookies with Mrs. Claus. With some help from the Young Women’s Service Club, kids had a wonderful time decorating cookies.

The Christmas tour of homes showcased some of the things that make Minden a wonderful place to live. More than 700 came out, stood in line, took the tours.

Downtown businesses were hopping thanks to Wrap it Up Downtown. They rolled out the red carpet (and food, apple cider, etc.) to shoppers. Saturdays can often be hit and miss for locally owned retailers. This Saturday was definitely an exception.

Minden always loves a parade, and this year certainly didn’t disappoint. Thanks to the Greater Minden Chamber, more than 50 entries paraded down the streets of Minden. It was the first year for the chamber to sponsor the parade. If that weren’t enough, parade staging and routes had to be changed slightly to accommodate other events. However, everyone handled things with poise and a great attitude. Parade goers never knew anything had changed.

A great day was capped off by one of the most spectacular fireworks displays every shown in the region.  Bistineau Blasters Fireworks with Brent Hunt really outdid themselves.

Throughout the day, social media was abuzz about the events, with Mindenites and visitors alike touting how impressed they were with everything. It truly was a day to be proud you are from Minden.

After it was all said and done, crews from the city of Minden made sure the streets were clean and ready for a return to “normal.”

There is no way to adequately recognize everyone who had a hand in everything that happened last Saturday. It took much planning, coordination, and execution. Thank you to all who took part in any way.

A good time was had by all.
