Annual fan drive aims to help seniors stay cool this summer

by Amber McDown

Michael and Chequella Walker are preparing to help local residents beat the summer heat with their annual fan drive, scheduled for July 4 from 9 AM to 1 PM.

The event will be held at 112 W. Roosevelt Drive in Minden and will focus on collecting electric fans for senior citizens in Minden and surrounding communities.

Walker stated, the goal of the annual effort is to “cool off our senior citizens of Minden and the surrounding areas” during the hottest months of the year.

Community members can donate fans or make monetary donations through Cash App at $ChequellaWalker.

The Walkers have hosted the fan drive annually as a way to assist residents who may struggle to keep cool during periods of extreme summer temperatures. Organizers hope the community will continue to support the effort through donations and participation.
