Assistant Manager of Mike’s Hometown Spirits Ashley Harrison was taken into custody Wednesday morning and charged with felony theft. This charge comes as a consequence of stealing from the business, writing several thousand dollars worth of checks to herself that she deposited into her own bank account.
Harrison had been employed at Mike’s Hometown Spirits for five years, since the business’s inception. She had worked her way up into the Assistant Manager position. Owner of Mike’s Hometown Spirits Mike Elshout stated that it came as a shock when he received the bank statements that detailed her financial wrongdoing.
“We received our bank statement for the prior month and found where she had written several thousand dollars worth of checks to herself. When the bank statement came we saw that they were made out to her. Dug through it, and she had some fake names on the check stubs and invoice numbers, and we had found out that those were not true”, said Elshout.
“She put on the check stub that it was some of our providers and distributors when it was actually made to her and deposited into her own account.”
“It is a shock. Anytime you have an employee that you’ve had this long and something like this happens, yeah it’s a shock. It’s terrible, but you gotta do what you gotta do.”
