Baseball: Sanders, Bower help Bossier Phillies win second straight American Legion state tournament

Former Glenbrook star Easton Sanders and Minden standout Brody Bower helped the Bossier Phillies win the American Legion Baseball state championship for the second year in a row.

The five-day tournament concluded Wednesday at Kirsch-Rooney Field in New Orleans.

Bower, a rising sophomore at BPCC, pitched a complete game in a 6-0 victory over Houma-based Southland Hogs-Red in the tournament’s final game. He struck out eight and walked none.

Bossier will now try to defend its Mid-South Regional title Aug. 6-10 in Washington, Mo. 

The Phillies dominated the state tournament, winning every game by at least six runs. They had to come from behind once, rallying from a 3-1 deficit after four innings to Southland en route to an 11-4 victory.

Bossier also defeated the St. Landry Bank Indians 13-3, the Crowley Millers 10-1 and the New Orleans Jesuit-based Retif Oilers 9-0.

Sanders, who is continuing his career at Louisiana Tech, drew three walks and had two stolen bases against St. Landry.

He was the starting pitcher against Crowley, allowing four hits and one earned run with five strikeouts and one walk in 3 2/3 innings.

He also had a double, three RBI and walked three times.

Sanders had two RBI on sacrifice flys in the first game against Southland. He had a single, RBI and walked twice against Retif.
