In the heart of Webster Parish, LaMa Animal Shelter is doing everything it can to provide safety, shelter, and second chances to animals in need. Since opening our new facility, we’ve quickly found ourselves full—with more calls for help coming in every single day. The demand is great, and the reality is clear: we cannot do this alone.
The power to create real change lies in the hands of individuals willing to step up. Each person who chooses to volunteer, donate, or lend a hand becomes a change-maker in the lives of countless animals who depend on us for survival and care.
Volunteers Are Vital
Volunteers are the heart of LaMa. Whether it’s cleaning kennels, walking dogs, or giving a frightened cat a bit of comfort, every task plays a crucial role. But working directly with the animals is not for everyone—it takes patience, gentleness, and a calm presence. That’s why our shelter team provides hands-on training to ensure the safety and well-being of both our volunteers and the animals in our care. Junior volunteers (under 18) are welcome too, but they must be supervised by a parent or guardian, and are given age-appropriate tasks that still make a meaningful impact.
Many Ways to Help
Not everyone is able to work directly with animals—and that’s okay. There are so many other ways to support our mission and lighten the load on our small but dedicated team:
- Fundraising Events: Help organize or participate in events that raise money for medical care, food, and facility improvements.
- Transport Support: Assist with moving animals to veterinary appointments, foster homes, or errands.
- Supply Drives: Coordinate efforts to collect and organize much-needed items like food, cleaning products, and pet supplies.
- Community Awareness: Spread the word about adoption, foster opportunities, and the importance of spay/neuter.
- Shelter Support: Help with laundry, organizing donations, office tasks, maintaining the facility and landscape maintenance.
A Small Team with a Big Mission
LaMa Animal Shelter is the only animal shelter serving all of Webster Parish. That means every abandoned litter, injured stray, or surrendered pet from miles around comes to us. We are a small group carrying a big burden—and every day, we are asked to take in more animals than we have space or resources for.
We need capable adults who can commit time to help care for the animals and keep the shelter running smoothly. We also need creative minds to help fundraise and grow community support. And we need people who are simply willing to care, to show up, and to say, “How can I help?”
