Looking through the eyes of a rescue dog

by Minden Press-Herald

After being abandoned, chased away, cold, hungry, and sometimes sick, a dog never fully loses hope in humanity. I still look for that one person—the one who will pause long enough to notice the fear in my eyes, the ribs beneath my skin, the silent plea for help behind my cautious stare. I’m still searching for the human who will see me not as a problem, but as a soul in need of kindness and compassion.

Each day I wander, hoping for help before my strength and courage run out. Many pass by. Some look away. Others shout at me to leave. But still—I wait. I hope. I believe there’s someone out there who will see me, not just as a stray, but as a heart still capable of love.

Once, I might have been a puppy in someone’s arms—cute and full of promise. Or maybe I was never wanted, never held, never welcomed, but I still dream of a kind heart. A warm meal, a soft place to sleep,a gentle voice that says, “You’re safe now.” I promise, if someone would just give me a chance, I would love them forever. I wouldn’t ask for much—just to be loved, and a safe place where I can learn your ways and be your loyal friend.

These are the hurting, innocent souls that rescuers meet every single day. The flood of the unwanted never stops. But each one—every tail, every paw, every pair of eyes—matters.

You can help. You can be the one.

LaMa Animal Rescue is on the front lines of this work. We’re a small rescue with a big heart, but the need is overwhelming. We desperately need volunteers, fosters, donations, and kind hearts willing to give just a little of themselves to restore compassion in our community.

Please, be part of the change. There are many ways to help:

  • Visit LaMaAnimalRescue.org to learn more.
  • Email [email protected] to sign up as a volunteer.
  • Most importantly, spay and neuter your pets—this is the biggest impact you can make in slowing the flow of unwanted, abandoned animals.

One person can make all the difference.
Be that person. Restore hope. Choose kindness. Save a life.
