The America 250/Minden 190 celebration got off to a strong start Thursday evening as a large crowd gathered at Miller Quarters Park for Bites & Beats, the opening event of the city’s three-day anniversary celebration.
Residents and visitors filled the park to enjoy live music, food, children’s activities, and fellowship as Minden began commemorating both the 250th anniversary of the United States and the city’s 190th birthday.
The evening featured a performance by Therah Newman, whose music provided the soundtrack for an event that drew attendees of all ages.

Children flocked to the water slide and foam party, where they spent much of the evening cooling off and playing with friends. Families spread out across the park, while others gathered near the stage to enjoy the music and festive atmosphere.

Food was also a major attraction during the event. The Great American Cookout featured hamburgers prepared by Fat Guys Catering, while local vendors offered a variety of refreshments and treats. Vendors included Shug’s Minden, Bros Lemonade, Woo’s Daiquiri, and Harris Corner Snow Cones.
Throughout the evening, the park buzzed with activity as attendees visited vendor booths, listened to music, and enjoyed the opening festivities. Organizers said the event was designed to kick off a weekend celebrating both the nation’s founding and Minden’s rich history, and the enthusiastic turnout suggested the community was ready for the festivities.

Bites & Beats marked the first event in the America 250/Minden 190 celebration, which continues through Saturday with activities including Run Minden on Main, the Pet Mayor Collaring Ceremony, Grilling on Main, the Greater Minden Chamber Duck Derby, live entertainment, family activities, and a fireworks finale.
With smiling faces, children at play, and a packed park enjoying music and food, Thursday’s kickoff event set an upbeat tone for what organizers hope will be a memorable community celebration.
