Bossier City man arrested for DWI after crash on Hwy 531

by Minden Press-Herald

A Bossier City man was arrested Thursday after crashing his vehicle off Highway 531 and showing signs of intoxication, according to Minden police.

Officers responded to a single-vehicle accident on October 9 and found a Dodge Charger that had run off the road and into the trees on the east side of the highway. The driver, identified as Phillip Cooper, 29, told officers he did not need medical attention.

Police said Cooper showed multiple signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and the odor of alcohol. A field sobriety test was administered, and officers observed all eight signs of impairment during the horizontal gaze nystagmus portion. The remaining tests were suspended for Cooper’s safety.

Cooper was taken to the Minden Police Department for further testing, where he provided a breath sample showing a blood alcohol concentration of 0.083 percent. He was placed in a five-hour intoxication hold before awaiting bond.

Cooper was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired (first offense) and careless operation.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
