The Bossier Parish Community College Theatre Program and the Cavalier Players will hold auditions for the fall production of Peter and the Starcatcher, a fast-paced theatrical adventure that explores the origins of Peter Pan, Captain Hook and Neverland.
Auditions are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 14-15, in the Stephen W. Slaughter Theatre, located in Building C on BPCC’s Bossier Campus, 6220 East Texas St. Actors should arrive at least 15 minutes early to complete an audition form. Participants are encouraged to bring a headshot and résumé if available, though neither is required. Those auditioning should dress comfortably and be prepared to move on stage, read from the script, improvise and sing briefly.
BPCC Theatre’s production will be directed by Dr. Ray Scott Crawford, director of the Performing Arts Program and professor of theatre.
“This is, simply put, an imaginative, highly theatrical and terribly funny play that explains the origins of Peter Pan, Captain Hook and the Neverland adventures,” Crawford said.
Written by Rick Elice with music by Wayne Barker, Peter and the Starcatcher is a theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novels. Conceived for the stage by directors Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, the Tony Award-winning play reimagines the story of how a young orphan becomes Peter Pan. Filled with pirates, unlikely heroes and imaginative storytelling, the production explores themes of friendship, duty, love, greed and adventure.
The production calls for 12 or more actors of any gender. BPCC Theatre encourages performers ages 17 and older to audition, including those interested in exploring BPCC’s Theatre degree program.
Actors may present a prepared monologue during auditions, but one is not required for most participants. Returning BPCC Theatre students are required to present a 45-second monologue.
Performances of Peter and the Starcatcher are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28-31, with matinee performances at 2 p.m. Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
