Minden Tiles and Tea celebrated its second anniversary August 25, marking two years of mahjong, friendship, and community service.
The group, which meets every other Tuesday at the ParTEA Room in Minden, has grown from 16 members when it began to more than 50 participants, according to Red Blooms/ParTEA Room owner Kathy Cropper.
While the group gathers to enjoy mahjong and fellowship, members also use their meetings as an opportunity to give back to the community.
This month, members are bringing canned goods to benefit the First Methodist Church food pantry. Throughout the year, the group also collects funds that will be donated to the St. Jude auction. Members bring food or make donations every other Tuesday evening.
“At the end of the year, that money goes to St. Jude,” Cropper said. “It’s a fun game that we do, but it’s also helping others.”
The group’s anniversary celebration also highlighted the friendships and community that have developed since its formation.
Members have watched friendships blossom, confidence grow, and their tables fill with new players. The group welcomes both regular and occasional participants.
Mahjong provides an opportunity for members to connect, challenge their minds, relieve stress, and build friendships.
