Chief Deputy Billy Joe Hawkins to lead MLK parade

EPSON MFP imageWard 1 Chief Deputy Billy Joe Hawkins will lead the 2015 MLK Parade as grand marshal at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19 in downtown Minden.

A native of Minden, Billy Joe Hawkins Sr. is a 1961 Webster High School graduate. After accepting his calling to preach the gospel of Christ he attended the United Theological Seminary where he received his bachelor degree in Theology.

The Rev. Hawkins loves to do the work of Christ, which is evident through his 32 years as pastor of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church of Minden. Pastor Hawkins has also served as Usher President of the Northwest 14th District Association for 23 years and President of the Minister’s Alliance for 20 years.

Pastor Hawkins said he looks forward to continuing his work for Christ as the newly elected Moderator/President of the Northwest 14th District Baptist Association.

He currently works for Webster Parish Ward I City Marshal’s Office as chief deputy marshal. He is one of the founding members of the Vintage Car Club of Minden.

Hawkins is the husband of Cynthia Hawkins and father of five sons and two daughters.
