College baseball: Former Glenbrook star Mandino stays hot as Louisiana advances to Sun Belt Tournament title game

Former Glenbrook star Maddox Mandino remained hot at the plate as the No. 7 seed Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns advanced to the championship game of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Saturday.

Mandino went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI in a 12-6 victory over Texas State, handing the No. 6 Bobcats their first loss of the tournament. That forced a second game between the two with the winner advancing to the title game.

Mandino, who started in right field in both games, went 2-for-3 and Louisiana advanced with a 7-4 victory,

In five tournament games, Mandino has gone 11-for-19 (.579).

The championship game is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. The Cajuns (39-22) will play the winner between No. 1 Southern Miss (42-15) and No. 5 Troy (32-28). That game is scheduled for 9 a.m.

Regardless of the outcome of the championship game, both Louisiana and Southern Miss are projected to make the Division I NCAA Tournament’s field of 64 by D1 Baseball.
