Council appoints Mayor Cox to Energy Board at October City Council Meeting

The Minden City Council met for its regular monthly meeting on Monday evening, addressing key items of city business. Among the actions taken, the council voted to appoint Mayor Nick Cox as director and Tyler Wallace as alternate director to the Louisiana Energy and Power Authority (LEPA) Board, authorized a cooperative endeavor agreement with the Ward 1 Marshal’s Office, reappointed Michael Davis to the Planning Commission, and approved a promotion and two new hires within the Minden Police Department.

The council adopted a resolution appointing Mayor Cox as director and Tyler Wallace as alternate director to the LEPA Board of Directors. Cox will replace the City of Minden’s line crew head, Gary Mooreland, who previously held the position. The mayor expressed his gratitude to Mooreland for both his representation of the city and the work he and his crew do to keep the city powered.

“Gary Mooreland, the head of our line crew, has been serving as the director for the City of Minden on the LEPA board for years, faithfully driving down to Lafayette for that meeting, and has just done a really great job representing the city,” Cox said. “I do sincerely want to thank Gary Mooreland not only for serving on the LEPA board, but for what he does for the city to keep us with power every day.”

The council also authorized Cox to enter into a cooperative endeavor agreement between the City of Minden and the Ward 1 Marshal’s Office. The agreement would allow the marshal’s vehicles to be covered by the city’s auto insurance policy and permit the city to cover maintenance and repair expenses.

“The City of Minden has an auto policy that’s really good, and it’s a blanket policy that covers all the vehicles that we own, and the Ward Marshal, their vehicles go under that policy,” Cox said. “This cooperative endeavor agreement would give us the ability to continue to insure the vehicles for the Ward Marshal’s Office.”

Later in the meeting, the council approved the reappointment of Michael Davis to the Minden Planning Commission, with his new term set to expire in June 2030.

The council also approved a promotion and two new hires for the Minden Police Department. Upon the recommendation of Police Chief Jared McIver, the council voted to promote Sgt. Anthony Miller to the rank of lieutenant. The council also unanimously approved the hiring of Kevin LaVack and Morgan Jester as police officers.

Monthly Minden City Council meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 6 PM at the Minden Civic Center. Meetings are open to the public and are also livestreamed on the City of Minden’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, both titled “City of Minden,” for those who cannot attend in person.
