by Minden Press-Herald

The City of Springhill is proud to announce that David Smith has been selected as the Grand Marshal for the 2025 Springhill Mardi Gras Parade! The parade will roll through downtown Springhill on Friday, February 7, at 6:00PM, bringing the vibrant spirit of Mardi Gras to the community in true Louisiana fashion.

Few individuals have had as profound an impact on Springhill’s economic revitalization as David Smith. A lifelong resident, Smith is more than just a businessman—he is a visionary leader dedicated to preserving, restoring, and reimagining the future of our communities. His commitment to preserving, restoring, and reinvigorating our historic downtown has transformed vacant and neglected buildings into thriving businesses, one brick-and-mortar success story at a time. Through his dedication, our community has not only preserved its charm and character but has also attracted new businesses and opportunities that contribute to the strength and sustainability of our local economy.

David has renovated approximately 20 buildings in downtown Springhill, breathing new life into spaces that are now home to long-term tenants and vibrant businesses. His work is not just about buildings—it’s about community growth, job creation, and ensuring North Webster Parish’s future as a thriving hub for commerce, culture, and community engagement. He truly puts his money where his mouth is, taking bold action to rebuild and reimagine our local economy.

Beyond his work in economic development, Smith has built an impressive career in finance and community service. From serving as Chief Financial Officer of Springhill Medical Center to a 20-year tenure at Carter Credit Union, where he led the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Service, Smith has worked tirelessly to improve financial resources for residents. His leadership extends to organizations such as the North Webster Parish Industrial District and the North Louisiana Economic Partnership (NLEP), where his efforts in business recruitment and regional economic growth have benefited the entire parish.

Smith’s dedication to public service is evident in his nearly 30 years of membership in both the Springhill Rotary Club and the Springhill Lions Club. Additionally, as President of the Springhill Amateur Radio Club, he leads a team responsible for emergency storm-spotting and disaster communication in partnership with the National Weather Service. Under his leadership, the radio club has also been instrumental in coordinating both the Mardi Gras and Christmas Parades in Springhill for over 30 years, ensuring that the events run smoothly and continue to be beloved traditions in the community.

David shares his passion for the success of North Webster Parish with his wife, Marla Morris Smith, who will join him in the parade. The two met in seventh grade at a piano recital and have been inseparable since. They are proud parents to Taylor Smith of Bentonville, AR, and Erin Smith of Springhill, LA, and are blessed with four grandchildren.

As Grand Marshal of the 2025 Springhill Mardi Gras Parade, David Smith represents the resilience, dedication, and entrepreneurial spirit that define the community. His leadership has shaped Springhill’s past, present, and future, and the City of Springhill is honored to celebrate his contributions during this year’s parade.

The Springhill Mardi Gras Parade will begin at South Main Mall, travel north on Main Street, turn onto Clinic Street and 1st Street NE, and loop back to the South Main Mall parking lot.
