The Village of Dixie Inn has adopted a new Safety Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) ordinance aimed at curbing speeding through town.
Under the ordinance, drivers caught operating a vehicle 12 miles per hour or more over the posted speed limit within the village limits may be issued a civil citation carrying a $250 fine. The measure was approved August 12 by a unanimous vote of the Board of Aldermen.
Unlike traditional traffic tickets, violations under STEP will not add points to a driver’s license if the fine is paid on time. However, motorists who fail to pay before their court date, or who do not appear in Minden City Court to contest the citation, may face contempt charges and have the infraction reported to the state as a driving violation.
Drivers who choose to contest a STEP citation must attend an Administrative Adjudication Hearing through Minden City Court on the date listed on their citation.
The ordinance takes effect 30 days after its first publication in the Minden Press-Herald on September 3, 2025.
Mayor Donna Hoffoss signed the measure following its passage, and the vote passed unanimously.
