A new barbecue cook-off festival is coming to downtown Minden in the spring.

The inaugural Grilling on Main, presented by the Minden Main Street Board and sponsored by MBL Bank, is set to fire up on June 4 in downtown Minden.

Terry Gardner, Main Street Board President, said the cook-off will be an exciting family-friendly festival for downtown.

“Backyard grilling has been a favorite pastime of mine since childhood. For many years I have wanted to bring this type of competition to Minden,” he said. “As president of Minden’s Main Street Board, I found this was the opportunity to bring Grilling On Main to life.”

The board met Monday evening for its monthly board meeting where Gardner presented members – along with Downtown Director Becky White – binders with proposed plans for the BBQ fest.

Board members discussed ideas for the festival and while they aren’t ready to release any plans yet, they are planning to have a youth competition for ages 12 through 17 and an adult competition for anyone 18 and older.

Gardner said there are grand-prize winners for both the youth and adult completions and taste cups will be sold so that revelers can sample the griller’s creations.

The committee plans to meet again in the next couple weeks and hopes to finalize more details for the festival.

Gardner says while MBL Bank is the five-star sponsor for the festival, there are currently four other levels of sponsorships for area business, which include different perks. For more information on sponsorships, Gardner said email him at [email protected] or Becky White at city hall at [email protected].

“This is definitely an event you are going to go ahead and mark on your calendar,” Gardner said.
