A Doyline man was arrested Wednesday, May 20, following a two-vehicle crash on Pilgrim Rest Road that led authorities to suspect impaired driving and drug possession, according to a Louisiana State Police report.
State police said troopers were dispatched at approximately 5:30 PM to assist the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office with the crash investigation.
Deputies on scene advised troopers that Robert Hoover, 21, of Doyline, had rear-ended another vehicle. Authorities also alleged Hoover attempted to conceal a bottle of prescription Alprazolam in his pocket after emergency responders and deputies arrived.
According to the report, troopers observed signs of impairment while speaking with Hoover. He reportedly performed poorly during standardized field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for suspected impaired driving.
After being advised of his rights, Hoover initially denied having anything illegal on his person, police said. However, during a search, Hoover reportedly admitted there were “X pills” in his pocket. Troopers then recovered a bag containing suspected methamphetamine pills.
Hoover was transported to the Minden Police Department, where he provided a breath sample that registered 0.0009% blood alcohol concentration, according to the report. Troopers stated Hoover later refused to provide a urine sample.
He was subsequently booked into Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center on charges of first-offense driving while intoxicated, possession of Schedule II controlled dangerous substances, and careless operation.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
