BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says it will begin drawing down Lake Bistineau on July 25 to reduce further expansion of salvinia, an invasive plant that can form mats on the surface.
A news release says the water level should drop 4 to 6 inches a day until it reaches 8 feet below normal pool stage.
The lake will still cover about 10,000 acres in Webster, Bossier and Bienville parishes. Boaters will be able to use four public boat launches: Port of Bistineau Launch, Bossier Public Launch, Grice’s and Bayou Dorcheat Public Launch.
Boaters should be cautious while the water is low, because boat lanes won’t provide normal clearance of underwater obstructions.
The Lake Bistineau control gates are scheduled to close Nov. 30 to let the lake refill.
