Leonard Ponder, 88, of Crossett, Arkansas passed away on July 13, 2016 at Baptist Health Medical Center. He was born on March 15, 1928 in Lester, Arkansas to his parents, Bradley and Mattie Teague Ponder.
Mr. Ponder was a store manager for a clothing and shoe store for 69 years, having served for West Brothers for 44 years and Sharpe’s for 25 years. He enjoyed the retail business.
He was a member and past president of the Lions Club and the Grand Marshal for the 2001 Christmas Parade. Mr. Ponder was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crossett.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ted Ponder and an infant son, Richard Wayne Ponder and six brothers, Earl, George, Jim, Eugene, Earnest and Carl Ponder.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Maggie Ponder of Crossett; a daughter, Rochele “Shelly” DuBose (Mack) of Crossett; one brother, Charles Ponder of White Oak Lake, Arkansas; three sisters, Katie Ackley of Franklin, Tennessee, Emma Jean Wood of Chidester, Arkansas, Annie Sarrett of Camden; three grandchildren, Kelly Ted Ponder (Sarah) of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Ashley Ponder Burks (Josh) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Justin DuBose of Crossett, and four great-grandchildren, Shaun, Kala, Lily Burks of Little Rock and Kimber DuBose of Crossett.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Russell Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Camden under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. (www.jonesservice.com)
