Drug charges send 2 to jail

SPRINGHILL – The North Webster Narcotics Task Force arrested a Springhill couple that lives inside a school zone for a laundry list of drug charges.

Joey Daniel Hough, 37, of the 300 block of North Ark Street, was arrested Tuesday, Feb. 23, for possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine in a school zone, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine in the presence of minors and possession of Schedule II CDS (hydrocodone). Bond was set at $255,000.

Blair Nicole Umpheries, 24, of the same address, was arrested along with Hough on the same charges. Bond was set at $72,500.

Sheriff’s Office, Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd and Det. Ronald Wedgeworth served a warrant at the North Ark Street address following a short investigation into the possible illegal sale of suspected methamphetamine from the residence.

According to reports, the search revealed methamphetamine and syringes in Hough’s pocket, and additional suspected methamphetamine and hydrocodone was discovered in Umpheries’ pants pocket in the bathroom.

At the time of the search, four children, all under the age of 10, were inside the home. Reports indicate the North Ark Street address was inside a school zone.

Umpheries and Hough were placed under arrest and booked at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
