A 59-year-old man was arrested late Monday night on charges of domestic abuse battery and drug possession following a welfare check in the 100 block of Thompson Place, according to the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to the residence at 10:31 PM on August 5 to check on the welfare of a 70-year-old woman. Upon arrival, a deputy observed bruising on the back of both of the woman’s legs. She told the deputy that Wendell Bernard “Chicago” Turner, who was inside the residence at the time, had punched her with a closed fist.
After being detained and read his Miranda rights, Turner was questioned about the injuries. He initially told deputies the bruises were the result of “horse playing” and later suggested they may have occurred while he was holding her down.
The woman later gave a more detailed account, stating that Turner entered the residence and demanded that she be his girlfriend. When she refused, she said he turned her on her side and attempted to pull off her shorts. When she resisted, she told the deputy that Turner began punching her until she let go.
While speaking with the woman, the deputy observed a glass pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamine on the couch beside her. She stated that the pipe belonged to Turner. Turner admitted the pipe was his and that he had smoked meth just prior to entering the home.
Turner was transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center and booked on charges of domestic abuse battery and possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
