Elodie Lucille Nixon Youngblood

Elodie Lucille Nixon Youngblood, age 91, of Minden, Louisiana, had her heavenly home going on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.

She was born January 9, 1927 in Ratcliff, Arkansas. She was a member of Gilgal Baptist Church, where she taught Children’s Sunday School and sang in the choir. She enjoyed working in her yard and gardening. Elodie was an accomplished artist, enjoying many types of arts and crafts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Uley and Sula Keck Nixon; first husband, George W. Austin; second husband, Samuel H. Youngblood; sisters, Velma Nixon, Sylvia Hall, and Vera Norris; brothers, William Nixon and Jason Nixon; daughter, Shirley Purifoy; and special son-in-law and friend, Hollis Hughes.
Mrs. Youngblood is survived by her son, Gene Austin; grandchildren, Ed Sturmer (Denise), Hollie Hughes (Greg), Gene Austin, Jr. (Angela), Nathan Austin (Jenifer), and Brian Austin; great grandchildren, Adam Johnson, Stacha Hughes, Austin Wooten, Jacob Austin, Annabelle Austin, Joshua Austin, and Emily Austin; great-great grandchildren, Aiden, Everleigh, and Tobias Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden, Louisiana with Rev. Steve Richardson and Clyde “Buck” Austin officiating. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Minden. The family will receive friends one- hour prior service.
