First Baptist Church choir began recording sessions for their album “In the Room” on August 29, wrapping up by August 31. The process included recording soloists, small groups, and the full choir, capping off a year of planning and collaboration involving churches nationwide.
Scotty Blackwell, the church’s music director, said the project was initiated by Phil Barfoot, CEO and president of CCT Music/Celebration Concert Tours International, based in Franklin, Tennessee. Barfoot aimed to produce a collection of choral music relevant to church members of all ages, featuring powerful messages. Five worship pastors from across the U.S. participated in the selection process, curating songs from their congregations. After reviewing over 60 songs, the list was narrowed to 12, covering genres from rock and Nashville grunge to ballads and worship music.
“Every song on this album is unbelievable, I mean, off the charts good,” Blackwell said.
The album will be available on CD and QR card formats, with proceeds directed toward recouping project expenses and funding future initiatives. Featured songs include “Dead Man Rising,” “I Will Dwell,” “Because of Jesus,” and “In the Room.”
Pre-sales have begun, offering the album for $12 if purchased by September 11. Afterward, the price will increase to $15. The album is expected to be released around the end of September.
