First Baptist Church sends aid to hurricane victims in North Carolina

by Amber McDown

A team from the First Baptist Church of Minden is traveling to North Carolina this week to deliver Christmas gifts to victims of Hurricane Helene. The effort is part of the church’s ongoing mission to provide support to communities impacted by the devastating storm, which struck western North Carolina on September 27, 2024.

Hurricane Helene caused historic flooding, landslides, and widespread destruction, leaving over 100 dead and thousands of homes and critical infrastructure damaged. Recovery efforts have been ongoing in the 39 counties designated for federal disaster assistance.

In addition to the holiday outreach, the church’s youth group is planning a summer trip to the region to assist with relief efforts. Their work will support the rebuilding of homes, infrastructure, and services, aiming to restore stability to communities that account for nearly half of the state’s population and economic output.

The First Baptist Church asks the Minden community to keep the mission team and the hurricane victims in their prayers as they continue these efforts to bring aid and hope to those in need.

Hurricane Helene left an estimated $59.6 billion in damage across North Carolina, underscoring the ongoing need for recovery initiatives like those supported by the church.
