A Minden man was arrested June 27 following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, according to a report from the Minden Police Department.
An officer patrolling the area of M.L.K. Drive at East Street observed a silver Dodge truck fail to signal while making a left-hand turn onto Painter Street. The officer initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Leon Jackson, 60.
During the stop, an open beer container was seen in plain view in the vehicle’s console. Jackson told the officer the beer was old and left over from the previous night. After Jackson provided his documents, he was asked to step out of the vehicle so a probable cause search could be conducted.
A second officer arrived on scene to assist. Upon removing the beer can from the vehicle, the first officer noted it was cold, suggesting recent use. During a search of the vehicle, a pipe commonly used to smoke crack cocaine was located.
While the search was ongoing, Jackson allegedly attempted to discard a small bag containing approximately 0.5 grams of crack cocaine into a wooded area nearby. He was detained and subsequently arrested.
Jackson was transported to the Minden Police Department and booked on charges of possession of Schedule II (crack cocaine), possession of drug paraphernalia, felony obstruction of justice, open container, failure to use a turn signal, and as a fugitive from the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
