WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after the Air Force decided to realign ownership of the B-1 bomber fleets and the Long Range Strike-Bomber (LRS-B) programs from Air Combat Command to Air Force Global Strike Command:

“I welcome the Air Force’s announcement to transfer ownership of the B-1 and Long Range Strike Bomber programs to Air Force Global Strike Command, headquartered at Barksdale Air Force Base.  I have long advocated that the Air Force prioritize the global strike and strategic deterrence missions. Integrating these assets under a single command will help ensure the proper control and resourcing of the bomber fleet, and ultimately give our Global Strike Commander at Barksdale the voice needed to fully support the long-range strike mission.”

The Air Force is still finalizing this decision that will become effective Oct. 1, 2015.

Dr. John Fleming is Chairman of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water, Power and Oceans and is a member of the House Armed Services Committee. He is a physician and small business owner and represents the 4th Congressional District of Louisiana.
