Flood warning issued for Bayou Dorcheat; minor flooding forecast

The National Weather Service has extended a Flood Warning for Bayou Dorcheat near Springhill, affecting portions of Webster and Columbia Parishes, as minor flooding continues in the area.

As of 10 AM Friday, the river stage measured 12.6 feet, surpassing the flood stage of 11.0 feet. The maximum stage recorded in the past 24 hours was 12.7 feet. Forecasters predict the river will gradually recede to 11.0 feet by Wednesday morning.

Minor flooding has been reported along the bayou, impacting private boat ramps and low-lying areas. Residents with livestock near Bayou Dorcheat are urged to move animals to higher ground to avoid potential hazards.

The current water level is comparable to a previous crest of 12.6 feet recorded on January 27, 2016.

The Flood Warning includes areas near Springhill, Dixie Inn, Lake Bistineau, and Bayou Dorcheat, all within Webster Parish. The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor conditions closely and take precautions as necessary.
